Fact Sheet
Mission Statement
The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra is dedicated to the highest level of artistic excellence as we use the power of live, symphonic music to improve the quality of life in Olympia and surrounding communities by inspiring people through engaging experiences that enrich their lives.
Performances
The Evergreen Concert Series has presented three previous music seasons beginning in 2006. The upcoming 2009-2010 Season celebrates the fourth year of the Concert Series and the inaugural season of the Capital Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. This season the Capital Philharmonic will perform in six concerts with the Evergreen Concert Series hosting another three to four performances with local and nationally recognized artists.
Performance Venue
All concerts are performed at Evergreen Christian Community in either the Main Auditorium (capacity 1200) or the new 17,000 square foot Activity Center (capacity 800), the latter being the hosting venue where the Gala events are also held throughout the season.
Attendance
Since its inception four years ago, the Concert Series has seen a rapid growth in attendance as the 2008-2009 season saw over 4,500 concert attendees. The majority of these people live in the Thurston County area but we are rapidly seeing a rise in guests from the Tacoma-Seattle area as well as Grays Harbor and Centralia-Chehalis area. Our concerts are geared towards the entire family so our age demographic is very wide.
Education and Community Programs
The Evergreen Concert Series also hosts the School of the Arts (SOTA) where both group and private instruction are given on a variety of instruments (voice, piano, strings, drums, guitar, bass, etc) as well as in other artistic avenues (photography, painting, drawing, sculpting, etc). Classes are offered for children, youth and adults year round.
Musicians
The Capital Philharmonic Orchestra is an auditioned group of musicians, many who play with organizations such as the Olympia, Bremerton and Tacoma Symphony orchestras, and are represented well as educators throughout the Thurston County schools.
The Capital Philharmonic Chorus is an auditioned group of vocalists who come from all parts of the South Sound regions and who work in all avenues of community life including teachers, doctors, sales people and more.
The Concert Series also features numerous local musicians as well as nationally recognized guest artists.
Music Director
Seth Winterhalter is the founding Director and Conductor of the Capital Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. He has also served as the Artistic Director for the Evergreen Concert Series since its inception in 2005.
Playbills
Our playbills are printed twice a year (Fall & Winter) and feature the information for those concerts performed in that portion of the season. We printed over 5,000 playbills last year, which were handed out at each concert as well as various community events such as the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce and Western Olympia Business Association (WOBA) meetings and the like.
